Here we are back again with yet another Visual Novel and a mental title; Root Double: -Before Crime * After Days- Xtend Edition. I think I will keep it as Root Double for the review.

Root Double offer’s story is seen from two different points of view: Watase Kasagi, who is sent into the facility to save lives? And Natsuhiko Tenkawa, who is trapped within the facility and is telepathic. Trapped in the bowls of LABO a facility, after it has started to melt down. Radiation medicine is running low and for extra stress there is a murderer on the loose.

The typical everyday Visual Novel (VN) story line. The Xtended version includes an optional side story.

For the most part, Root Double is just your standard VN. We will spend most of the time reading text, this is part and parcel of the VN genera. There are over a dozen endings, so replayability is fantastic.

Where Root Double is different is the Senses Sympathy System (SSS). This allows the player to change the emotions to each character to change the narrative of the story as it progresses. The SSS is a different take on the choices in normal style VN but it will be a case of trail and error as there is not overly much sign of what will happen when changing emotions.

As this is a VN we can’t go in toto much detail surrounding the story as well it’s the whole point of the game. Visual the game is done really nice; with well-detailed characters and still shit back grounds and the odd partial effect.

Root Double: -Before Crime * After Days- Xtend Edition is a great VN and I highly recommend playing it though. The story, the tension, the story progression and the SSS system. All work well together and deliver a great story. Not to mention the dozen or so endings that you have to experience.

This is yet again another must buy VN.
