Nothing captures the imagination of people as a good cryptid. And one of the best known are the Mothmen of West Virginia, Point Pleasant 1966 through to 1967. It also resurfaced in 2016 for a spell.

In Mothmen 1966, you take control of three characters; Holt, a gas station clerk, Lee and Victoria, a couple heading to Point Pleasant for a date. Their night does not go as planned. First, the Men in Black visit Holt. Whereas Lee and Victoria have to fend off a pack of wolves. Things go from bad to worse as the night’s events unfold.

The narrative and the writing are both fantastic, with great pacing while not feeling forced.

Pixel Pulp

Mothmen 1966 has been dubbed as ‘Pixel Pulp’. Taking inspiration from pulp fiction and 80s style computer graphics. If you didn’t know, pulp fiction is action based racy stories from around 1900 to 1950. That were published on cheap wood pulp based paper.

The story is given as a pseudo-choose-your-own adventure. With the puzzles having only one way to complete them. This does not take away from any of the fun. They are fairly simple, but that adds to the charm.

Adding in the great art style adds so much depth to the emotions on show as the cast realise what is happening. Based solely at night with a blue/green colour pallet that does a great job of emphasising the terror that is unfolding.

Overall Mothmen 1966, is a great adventure that will entertain the player. With its well-written script. And beautiful art style keeps you on the edge of your seat. And is worth the few hours it takes to complete.
