In Lake you play as Meredith Weiss who, after years of working in the big city, returns home to help her Dad. Swapping computer programming for a mail carrier in the picturesque Providence Oaks, while her parents are on holiday.

After delivering the packages and letters, Meredith is free to relax how she likes. Meet old friends, make new ones, start up a relationship and more. Throughout the short stay, Meredith will run into old friends and new ones and progress this story as each day passes.

Lake is an all around relaxing experience, set in a beautiful backdrop.

Mail’s Here!

The gameplay loop of Lake is simple; mail carrier by day, at night you’re free to explore or talk to people. This is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it’s a simple slice of life story, but its gameplay loop never changes.

When it comes to delivering the mail, you will get a handful of houses to deliver to. Then you plot the route through Providence Oaks and off you go. There is no time limit to deliver these packages, so take your time.

At night you are free to visit places and talk to people you know and further the relationships. With a simple dialog choice. This keeps everything nice and relaxed and slowly ticking over for the story.

Where Lake’s Strength Lies

As you start to get into the swing of things, from the relaxing almost autopilot style mail delivery. Your boss calls you for extra favours and gives you more work. Or the times where you are talking and meeting new characters, you start to realise something is a little bit special about Lake.

Lake is art imitating life. There is nothing special going on in Providence Oaks, no conspiracy or murders you have to solve. It is just people going through their own lives and trying to muddle through as best they can. With most of the stories being interesting and relatable, you feel a connection to some of these characters. It is almost like how you feel in your own life when meeting someone you connect with.

Overall Lake is a nice relaxing experience that if it clicks, you will get something from a handful of characters. If you are a fan of story driven games and do not mind repetitive tasks, Lake could be for you. I recommend Lake. It’s a really lovely experience.
