Back in 2017, the asymmetrical survival horror sub-genre was born with Friday the 13th. Four survivors working together to escape one overpowered bad guy. It is something I have tried many times to get in to but never have had any luck.

Now we have Evil Dead The Game, one of the best horror franchise around (in my opinion). based on the TV series, and characters ranging from the movies and the show. I was hopeful for some enjoyment.

This Is My Boom Stick!

The premise of Evil Dead The Game is fairly similar to all other games of this ilk. There are a set of objectives to achieve in order to escape the evil trying to kill you.

Here, the survivors need to find and collect three map pieces that will show the location of two totems that need collected after which need to move on the boss. Where you most close the Necronomicon while surviving waves of Deadites and The Dark Ones as they are throwing magic at you.

The horror ramps up when you are not slaughtering Deadites left, right and center. The maps are fairly large and will be plenty of wandering around in the dark and getting scared with the traps left for you.

On the human side, there are three versions of Ash Williams, and the new characters of Pablo, Kelly and plenty of others. Each of the players have their own play styles and progression tree.

On the other side, you play as Kandarian Demon, the main evil that is the source of the Deadites. This is the biggest change to the game genre. Instead of one killer, we have an army of Deadites to contend with.

While playing as the Kandarian Demon, you will collect dark energy and use this to set traps to scare the human, like little Ash or the moving trees. You can add traps that spawn Deadites or have Deadites patrolling an area.

After Deadites are on the map, you can control one and start hunting down the humans. Each type of Deadites has three different types of units that all have their own fighting styles and abilities.

Playing as the Kandarian Demon is by far the best part of the game, as you are the personification of evil and it’s far more fun.

Look, Maybe I Didn’t Say Every Tiny Syllable

The game its self is fun, but my there are plenty of problems. Falling through the map, poor weapon aiming, bad cameras to name a few things. It’s not perfect and has a lot of problems.

Overall, Evil Dead The Game is a strange one. I am torn; it is fun to play but only playing as the Kandarian Demon. As a human, it is boring and is made harder with the problems.

If you are a fan of Asymmetrical horror games, this one is not bad. I would wait for a while until the problems are ironed out.
